Is Upwork legit for finding freelancer jobs in the UAE?

I just moved to the UAE and I'm looking for an online flexible way to earn. I chanced upon Upwork but I'm not sure if it's legit or not.

Can I trust Upwork to deliver real jobs? Do I need to go through any verification as well before I can login and apply? I am seeking mainly freelance work that I can accomplish online, and wondered if it's even possible to earn a good living on Upwork.

Anyone from the UAE using it and doing well?

  • Hey! I totally get where you're coming from—I had the same doubts when I first explored Upwork from Dubai. Let me reassure you: Upwork is 100% legit, and it’s one of the most popular global platforms for freelancer jobs, especially for people in the UAE who want to work remotely. I’ve been using it for over a year now, and it’s helped me land clients from all over the world, from startups to big agencies.

To get started, you just need to sign up and complete your profile. Once you login, Upwork may ask for identity verification depending on your region, and in the UAE, that usually means uploading a passport or Emirates ID. It’s safe and part of their effort to keep scammers off the platform. After that, you can browse thousands of job listings—from writing to graphic design—and send proposals.

I’ve even seen people using Upwork to supplement their income while investing in stock markets or saving for bigger goals. The earning potential varies depending on your skill, but if you’re consistent, you can definitely make good money—some freelancers in the UAE make it their full-time career.

👉 Pro tip: Keep your profile professional, take skills tests, and apply regularly.
